Event Overview
This Craft and Tech workshop invites students to explore their future career paths. During this hands-on, interactive session, participants will engage in brainstorming and role-playing and use AI to craft a vision for their professional futures. Using backcasting techniques to construct desirable pathways, students will deliver group presentations and provide constructive feedback through design critique.
Presented by alliz and VIVISTOP NITOBE with support from mentor Nathan Paterson. The workshop is free to participate in and exclusive to students of Nitobe Bunka Junior High and High School.

Icebreaker and Workplace
The facilitator will introduce a familiar workplace to illustrate various roles and responsibilities before expanding to additional workplaces.
Students will be assigned to specific workplaces and conduct similar explorations to discover diverse professional roles.

Time Travel to 2040: Future Workplaces with AI
The facilitator will give an interactive demonstration on using AI to explore and visualize the evolution of careers, roles, and the future workplace.
Students will collaborate in groups to define and explore roles in a future workplace.

Backcasting to Build the Path: Now and Future
Groups will engage in role-playing activities to construct a vision of their future career paths. This journey can be anchored in education, projects, professional experience, skills, relationships, geography, industry, and technology.

Presentation and Feedback
Students will deliver a brief 2–3 minute presentation of their work, followed by a design critique session to provide constructive feedback.

VIVISTOP NITOBE
VIVISTOP NITOBE is a co-creative space within Nitobe Bunka Gakuen, where a community has emerged in which children and adults engage with one another as equals. On weekdays it operates as a school classroom, while on Saturdays and other days it opens without admission fees or set curricula, allowing participants to pursue activities that grow from their own interests on an ongoing basis. Staff members are not instructors but participants in their own right, engaging in making and dialogue alongside others while supporting the relationships that sustain the space. Rather than assuming a teacher-and-learner dynamic, the space allows creativity and learning to arise naturally through human connection. What defines it is not one-off workshop-style activities but cultural practices nurtured over time — a creative commons that, while situated within a school, remains open to the broader society.
